ARMSTRONG SENIOR

Located in San Francisco Bayview District, this affordable senior housing project is served by a nearby Third Street Rail stop, the new Muni line.  The residence, predominately studios and one-bedroom units enclose a courtyard and sit atop commercial spaces set to house shops, senior services, a library, and a community center.

This early unique landscape afforded vegetated bioswales along the street and mews.  This project was a SFPUC demonstration project on sustainable water wise design.

The colorful plants originated from the African continent.  A spout offers a "rain chain" water feature into a globe planter.

A second floor courtyard provides outdoor seating via wood tables-chairs and concrete planter walls.  Colorful day lilies match the building colors with tree ferns surround the seniors.  Following sounds of water fountain, one descends the staircase and connects to the indoor-outdoor community center.
