GOLDEN GATE PARK
INFRASTRUCTURE
AND ADA PROJECTS

The Golden Gate Parks projects included notable areas Conservatory of Flowers, Music Concourse and McLaren Lodge, a Richardsonian architecture historic building built in 1896.  AWA Jt Venture coordinated various architecture and engineering consultants to provide much needed access and park renovation projects.

The Conservatory of Flowers project involved public access to the conservatory.  Utilizing the importance of the gardens, AWA was able to provide accessible pathways through viewing the flower beds that didn't impact the important cultural landscape.

McLaren Lodge, the headquarters for San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, required a front entry and renovated landscape, parking access and trails designation.  AWA worked within Federal Historic Preservation Standards to include a front ramp with echoes of the Richardsonian style distinctly different from the historic architecture.  Landscape upgrades included matching an existing mature Canary Island Palm and irrigation around "Uncle John's Monterrey cypress trees.  Accessible parking and trail markers were also incorporated into the project as well as irrigation and planting upgrades.

PARKS

YGNACIO VALLEY ROAD PROJECT

Our design is contemporary, made up of simple geometric lines and curves.  Curved and straight planters surround the users in a serene space.  These materials function as raised planters for shrubs and grasses on Level 2, creating a usable and interesting open space for the residents while also filtering stormwater runoff.  We have three main function areas.  One, a community gathering space surrounded by trees at grade level.  Two, Rectangular tables, chairs and benches are close by the children's play area.  Three, a playground area of play surfacing of mounds, nestle a climbing and train play structures.  The "train" play structure pays homage to the Iron Horse historic train line nearby.

Street level trees and stormwater planters greet users with a corner entry of metal weathering planters to match the historic industrial heritage.  Lush plants climb to the trellis and envelope a mini plaza.
